The Story: Mom makes me something new for lunch. In addition to my sandwich I get alphabet soup, and she shows me my name floating in the soup. I don't know what that means exactly, but I do see the characters. Without even knowing it, that image becomes ingrained in my mind. It's still a few years before I will go to school, but seeing those characters makes me curious. It plants a very early seed for reading and writing. By the time I get to Kindergarten, I will already recognize the shape and the names of all the letters in my name; it all starts right here with Mom making me a special lunch.
